Creative Harvests with Sarah Heagney & Ian Scott Massie
Creative Harvests
Landscape art and Foraging Would you like to get closer to the natural environment, explore and create in a beautiful setting? This experience combines a sensory appreciation of natural elements resulting in creating ephemeral sculptures and a seasonal drink, based on the edible plants, flowers and berries available. Length of experience: 2 ½ hours |
Your experience leaders:
Sarah Heagney
I am a dedicated tea-drinker, experienced forager and teacher. Growing up on the Yorkshire Wolds, followed by living and working in the Dales, I have developed a life-long love of all things wild and a passion for sharing my love of nature with others.
Ian Scott Massie
I am a musician, artist and poet and, through these different strands, I‘ve found enjoyment and meaning in my life. This has been hugely enhanced by an appreciation of the beauty of the natural world.
The location:
Marfield Wetlands - a nature reserve near Masham rich in wildlife (especially birds) and a place where a wide variety of plants grow. Geese, heron, and waterfowl are plentiful here and the area includes a variety of landscape features including hazel coppice, lakes, brambles, rare wild flowers, wild fruit and streams.
Event Description:
This experience is an opportunity to get very close to the minutiae of the natural world - plants, stones, wood and the sights and sounds of a beautiful place. We’ll gather plants and natural materials to make something to drink and sculptures to photograph. Along the way we’ll discuss the beauty and usefulness of what we find and a little about the setting in which we’ll be working.
With knowledgeable, local-based leaders you’ll get insights into the wetlands location, the plants and their uses and ways of sculpting with natural materials.
After meeting at the car park at Marfield Wetlands near Masham we’ll observe and listen to the environment around us, look closely at the beauty of plants, stone and wood and discover some of the stories, folklore and ancient uses of the plants we find.
We’ll construct small works of art from leaves, branches, pebbles and found objects and use photography to record our creations before enjoying something to eat and drink made from the results of our foraging.
What You’ll Need To Bring:
Other equipment will be provided by the leaders.
Please let us know in advance if you have any food or plant allergies or particular dietary requirements.
Cost: £100 for a 2 ½ hour experience for up to 6 people
Open to anyone over 8 years. (Children under 16 to be accompanied by an adult)
