Preserving Stories and Creating Memories
Do you want to try and preserve some items from the lives of yourself or your ancestors but don’t want them in their current form or perhaps quantity? This experience looks at how we enrich memories and pass on stories through repurposing small objects such as photos, papers, tools, trinkets, materials or sentimental things. The object/s you bring should ideally fit within a teacup. |
Length of experience: 3 hours
Experience Leader: Your experience will be led by Josie Beszant an artist who has a fascination with stories and storytelling and how they can enrich our experience. Josie’s art involves found objects, photos and memories so this subject is very close to her heart. Josie has many years running creative experiences with individuals and groups and aims to make your time fun, collaborative and enriching.

Location: Happy House Masham is part of the home of artists Ian Scott Massie and Josie Beszant. It's rooted right in the centre of Masham - in the ancient Market Place. The room we'll be working in is most likely to be the music room in the oldest part of the house, it's warm and friendly with plenty of interesting instruments and art on the walls. Come to the front of the building (Masham Gallery) where you'll be shown to the Happy House rooms.

We’ll look at all sorts of ways that small objects can be preserved, remade or repurposed to enhance the stories that they hold for you and the ones you wish to pass on to others. The experience is designed to be centred around your small object/s and stories.
We’ll begin with a short relaxation. Then we’ll look at a few examples of different and successful memory and story preservations with objects. Looking at your own object or photos of it we’ll begin to draw out the stories from it and how we distill the essence of those stories into their essential components. We’ll then look at methods and ideas that we can use to transform them into new visual creations. Depending on the object and the complexity of what we are working with we may create some simple visual collages together for you to take home, or we may work with the object itself. We will look at how you can either begin to transform the item yourself or work with an artist or maker to enrich the stories of your object and to create something new and meaningful.
