Yoga and Breathing Techniques
Pranayama is the yogic technique of breath control, Prana meaning “life force” or “energy source” and Yama meaning “control” or “restraint”. So pranayama is the control of the life-force. Or more commonly in our modern practice, breath control.
The term pranayama covers many breathing techniques in yoga which can be used for multiple results, to aid sleep, calm the nervous system, cool the body down, heat the body up as just a few examples. These have been practiced for thousands of years by yogis. and now in the western world we are starting to more widely understand the benefits or breath work. Breathing is a muscular activity and just like the muscles in the rest of our body it takes practice and dedication to aid the respiratory system to work well and in harmony creating a happy healthy body and mind. In this experience we will talk about the different techniques and practice the apropriate ones to you, along with the theory behind it and the history and tradition. Igniting a relationship with your breath is a lifelong benefit that will help you in so many ways. |
